SQL Server 2012 :: Pivot Rows And Columns In The Same Query?

Mar 26, 2015

I currently have data stored in a temporary table and I would like to transpose the data into a better format. I would like for the query to be dynamic since one of the tables currently has over 500 columns.

The attached file provides an example of the table structure along with sample data. Below the first set of data is the desired final format.

SQL Server 2012 :: Convert Rows To Columns Using Dynamic PIVOT Table

Feb 3, 2015

I have this query:

SELECT TOP (100) PERCENT dbo.Filteredfs_franchise.fs_franchiseid AS FranchiseId, dbo.Filteredfs_franchise.fs_brandidname AS Brand,
dbo.Filteredfs_franchise.fs_franchisetypename AS [Franchise Type], dbo.Filteredfs_franchise.fs_franchisenumber AS [Franchise Number],
dbo.Filteredfs_franchise.fs_transactiontypename AS [Transaction Type], dbo.Filteredfs_franchise.fs_franchisestatusname AS [Status Code],

[Code] ....

I need to pivot this so I can get one row per franchiseID and multiple columns for [Franchisee Name Entity] and [Franchise Name Individual]. Each [Franchisee Name Entity] and [Franchise Name Individual] has associated percentage of ownership.

This has to be dynamic, because each FranchiseID can have anywhere from 1 to 12 respective owners and those can be any combination of of Entity and Individual. Please, see the attached example for Franchise Number 129 (that one would have 6 additional columns because there are 3 Individual owners with 1 respective Percentage of ownership).

The question is how do I PIVOT and preserve the percentage of ownership?

SQL Server 2008 :: How To Pivot Unknown Number Of Rows To Columns Using Data As Column Headers

Sep 10, 2015

I have a single table that consist of 4 columns. Entity, ParamName, ParamsValue and ParamiValue. This table stores normalized Late Fee related parameters for apartments. The Entity field contains a code that identifies the apartment complex. The ParamName in a textual field that contains the name of the parameter that the other 2 fields define the value for; ParamsValue and ParamiValue. If the Late Fee parameter (as named in ParamName is something numerical then the value for that parameter can be found in ParamiValue else its in ParamsValue.

I don't know if 'Pivot' is the correct term to use for describing what I am trying to do because I've looked at the Pivot examples and I don't see how that will work for this. Using the Table and data as provided below, how would I construct a query so that I get 1 row per Entity in which the columns are the ParamsValue or ParamiValue for the ParamName listed in the column header (for the query)?

Below is the DDL to create the table and populate it.

USE [DBA_UTIL]
CREATE TABLE [dbo].[PARAMEXAMPLE](
[Entity] [varchar](16) NULL,

I'm trying to write a query that puts the data present in the "Year" column as if they were in a row (column definitions)..making sums of pieces and values.. or.. to be more clear..

I want to obtain this:

2003 Items

Any ideas? I think I should use the PIVOT keyword to write the sql but I can't figure how it works and how can I do that sums.

Please note: I don't know how many distinct values of "Year" exists and the min and max year can be specified by the user.

Thank you for your help.

Attempting To Transpose/pivot Columns To Rows... I Think.

Jun 26, 2006

I have something of a challenge for you folks (at least it's very challenging for me).

I have a table that has data that looks like this:

Date______OrderNum____WorkDay

2006-06-1__AA_________1

2006-06-1__AB_________1

2006-06-2__BA_________2

2006-06-2__BB_________2

2006-06-2__BC_________2

2006-06-5__CA_________3

2006-06-5__CB_________3

etc.

So, there are dates that orders happened and each date is marked as the 1, 2, 3, etc. business day of the month.

What I am trying to write is a SQL statement that will display results thus:

Day1______Day2______Day3_______etc.

AA________BA_______CA_________etc.

AB________BB_______CB_________etc.

Is this making any sense to anyone? Basically, I need to turn the WorkDay rows into columns and display all the info for each WorkDay under them.

I have a feeling this isn't hard, but I am fairly new to writing SQL so any advice would be pure gold to me. Thanks!

PIVOT/CROSS TAB/Converting Rows To (multiple Group) Columns

Aug 3, 2007

Hello All,

I am trying to convert the rows in a table to columns. I have found similar threads on the forum addressing this issue on a high level suggesting the use of cursors, PIVOT Transform, and other means. However, I would appreciate if someone can provide a concrete example in T-Sql for the following subset of my problem.

Consider that we have Product Category, Product and its monthly sales information retrieved as follows:

Merge two rows into one (conditions or Pivot?)

I have Temptable showing as

Columns:EmpName, Code, Balance

Rows1: EmpA, X, 12
Rows2: EmpA, Y, 10

I want to insert the above temp table to another table with column names defined below like this

Empname, Vacation Hours, Sicks Hours
EmpA, 12, 10

Basically if it is X it is vacation hours and if it is Y it is sick Hours. Needs a simple logic to place the apprpriate hours(Balance) to its respective columns. I'm not sure how I can achieve this in using Pivot or Conditions.

I am trying to pivot table DYNAMICALLY but couldn't get the desired result .

Here is the code to create a table

create table Report

deck char(3),
Jib_in float,
rev int,
rev_insight int,
jib_out float,

[Code] .....

Code written so far. this pivots the column deck and jib_in into rows but thats it only TWO ROWS i.e the one i put inside aggregate function under PIVOT function and one i put inside QUOTENAME()

DECLARE @columns NVARCHAR(MAX), @sql NVARCHAR(MAX);
SET @columns = N'';
SELECT @columns += N', p.' + QUOTENAME(deck)
FROM (SELECT p.deck FROM dbo.report AS p
GROUP BY p.deck) AS x;

I need all the columns to be pivoted and show on the pivoted table. I am very new at dynamic pivot. I tried so many ways to add other columns but no avail!!

SQL Server 2012 :: How To Join Pivot Results With Dynamic Columns

Mar 5, 2015

I have a lookup table, as below. Each triggercode can have several service codes.

TriggerCodeServiceCode
BBRONZH BBRZFET
BBRONZH RDYNIP1
BBRONZP BBRZFET
BCSTICP ULDBND2
BCSTMCP RBNDLOC

I then have a table of accounts, and each account can have one to many service codes. This table also has the rate for each code.

AccountServiceCodeRate
11518801DSRDISC -2
11571901BBRZFET 5
11571901RBNDLOC 0
11571901CDHCTC 0
17412902CDHCTC1 0
14706401ULDBND2 2
14706401RBNDLOC 3

What I would like to end up with is a pivot table of each account, the trigger code and service codes attached to that account, and the rate for each.

I have been able to dynamically get the pivot, but I'm not joining correctly, as its returning every dynamic column, not just the columns of a trigger code. The code below will return the account and trigger code, but also every service code, regardless of which trigger code they belong to, and just show null values.

What I would like to get is just the service codes and the appropriate trigger code for each account.

SELECT @cols = STUFF((SELECT DISTINCT ',' + ServiceCode
FROM TriggerTable
FOR XML PATH(''), TYPE
).value('(./text())[1]', 'VARCHAR(MAX)')
,1,2,'')

[Code] ....

SQL Server 2014 :: UNION Vs PIVOT For De-flattening SOME Columns Of A Partially Flat Table

Jan 23, 2015

We have a table with 500+ columns. The data is non-normalized, i.e. there are four groups of fields for for "people", followed by data that applies to all people in the row (a "household").For ad-hoc queries, and because I wanted to index columns within each person (person 1's age, person 2's age, etc.), I used UNION:

SELECT P1Firstname AS FirstName, P1LastName as LastName, P1birthday AS birthday, HouseholdIncome, HouseholdNumber of Children, <other "household" columns>
UNION
SELECT P2Firstname AS FirstName, P2LastName as LastName, P2birthday AS birthday, HouseholdIncome, HouseholdNumber of Children, <other "household" columns>

I could get at least the P1... P2... P3... columns with PIVOT, but then I believe I'd have to JOIN back to the row anyway for the "household" columns. Performance of UNION good, but another person here chose to use PIVOT instead.I can' find any articles on PIVOT vs. UNION for "de-flattening".

Urgent: SQL Server 2000 Bogging Down On XP

Feb 17, 2008

Hi Experts,

I have an urgent situation expecting your advice. I have a .net front end application running against SQL 2000 DB in a XP box, it has been working fine for two years, recently when the .Net app starts, it works still ok getting data from sql database on the first form (dislpay data retreived from a table and view in a master-client grid), while I often get timeout error when I proceed with other processes that need sql database and I noticed that the HD light on SQL server machine (XP) kept flashing when timeout error occured, seems it kept reading/writing disk. I could not even close enterprise manager from SQL Server box when the HD was busy, and it also took a considerable long time to reboot the machine. sometimes I just shut down the machine (power off) and turn on the power again, then the sql server came back to life and could work stable for a couple of days.

Do I need reindex? reinstall sql server? or might it be relating to hardware issue?

Thanks so much!

Eric

Replication Using SQL Server 2000 (SP4) .. Urgent...

Mar 1, 2007

Hi,

We have few branches with individual dbs are sitting in the branches itself. Periodically all the data need to be updated to a single HQ database. At the moment, all the tables's primary key are unique and each branch will have branch ID's in the transaction tables.

e.g. Branch1 data need to be updated to HQ db. However, HQ db records which are related to Branch 1 data only need to be updated back to Branch 1. other branch records should not goto Branch1.

Similaryly other branch records need to be updated/replicated back to HQ database. And only records related to the particular branch need to be updated from HQ (if any changes made)..

At the moment, i can do simple replication from one db to another db only... Can anyone guide/give suggestions on how to go about doing this?? If possible, please give steps involved...

TX

SQL Server 2012 :: Compare Two Different Columns Of 2 Different Rows In A Data Set?

Jan 29, 2014

Is there a efficient way to compare two different columns of 2 different rows in a data set as shown below.

For eg: I would like to DateDiff between Date2 of RowID 1 and Date1 of RowID 2 of IDNo 123. After this comparision , if datediff between two dates are <=14 then i want to update 1 else 0 in IsDateDiffLess14 of RowID1 . In below example its 0 because datediff of two dates >=14. So, want to compare the Date2 and Date1 in this sequence for the same IDNo. For RowID 6 there is only 1 row and no other row to compare, in this case IsDateDiffLess14 should be updated with 0.

RowID IDNo Date1 Date2 IsDateDiffLess14
1 123 04/10/2013 04/12/2013 0
2 123 05/10/2013 05/11/2013 1
3 123 05/21/2013 05/25/2013 0
4 112 01/10/2013 01/14/2013 1
5 112 01/27/2013 01/28/2013 0
6 120 03/10/2013 03/12/2013 0

SQL Server 2012 :: Convert Records From Rows Into Columns

Nov 13, 2014

I have 5 columns in my database. 1 column is coming like a dynamic.

I want to convert records from rows to columns. Currently I have a data like this.

Race AgeRange Amount

W 17-20 500
W 21-30 400
W 31-40 200
A 17-20 100
H 41-50 250
H 51-60 290

So age range is not fixed and it can be any and I have one separate relational table for age range where it's coming from. Now I want to convert it into columns like

Race 17-20 21-30 31-40 41-50 51-60

W 500 400 200 0 0
A 100 0 0 0 0
H 0 0 0 250 290

current:
IDSeq Desc DateOpen DateClose
1 AA description 1 1/1/2015 12/31/2015
1 AB description 2 1/1/2015 12/31/2015

SQL Server 2012 :: Compare Dates Between 2 Different Rows And Columns?

Feb 18, 2015

What I need to be able to find is any records where the Discontinue_Date is greater than the Effective_Date on the next row for a given Customer ID and Part_ID. This is a customer pricing table so the Discontinue_Date of row 53 for example should never be greater than the Effective_Date of row 54130, these are the records I'm looking to find. So I'm looking for a SELECT query that would look for any records where this is true. Obviously the last Discontinue_Date row for a Customer_ID will not have a next row so I wouldn't want to return that.
