Use SSMS With SQL Server 7.0

Nov 1, 2006

Is there any way to use SQL Server Management Studio to manage a 7.0 database? I have a few old databases still in 7.0 and would really like to manage them through SMSS. Am I out of luck?

Thanks!

SQL Server 2012 :: Querying XML From SSMS?

May 5, 2014

I have an xml document that (for this example) I've simplified to look like this:

<xml xmlns:s='uuid:BDC6E3F0-6DA3-11d1-A2A3-00AA00C14882'
xmlns:dt='uuid:C2F41010-65B3-11d1-A29F-00AA00C14882'
xmlns:rs='urn:schemas-microsoft-com:rowset'
xmlns:z='#RowsetSchema'>
<s:Schema id='RowsetSchema'>

[code]....

When I try querying the xml document in SQL, I get nothing back, unless I remove the schema information. I'm using this:

declare @x xml
select @x = P
from openrowset (bulk 'E:VehicleOption0514.xml', single_blob) as Products(P)
declare @hdoc int
exec sp_xml_preparedocument @hdoc output, @x

[Code] ....

SSMS 2012 - Connect To Server Box

Every time I start SSMS 2012 the "Connect to Server" box is partially obscured in that the top of it, the move bar can't be accessed. I've manually moved it using "alt+space" then "M" followed by the arrow keys, but it's getting annoying.  Is there any way to change the initial start position of this box?

SQL Server 2008 :: SSMS - XML Resultset Not Opened In New TAB

May 7, 2015

If you write a query that outputs XML, you'll have a long string in the Results window/tab that is also a link. Clicking on this link opens a new tab in SSMS with the formatted XML string easier to read.

My issue is that clicking on the link opens the "formatted XML string" tab ON THE SAME tab as my code and no way to go back to my code after that ... I need to reload the query from disk, if saved, to erase the "formatted XML" window.

SQL Server Admin 2014 :: SSMS Will Only Run As Administrator

May 28, 2015

After installing SSMS on some computers - the only way we can get SSMS to run correctly is to run it as the administrator. Is there a way where you don't have to do that? These end users are logging as themselves and have accounts in SQL Server all set up - but SSMS will only launch for them if we right click and select "run as administrator".After doing some digging - it seems that this is a common problem out there.

Sql Server 2008 Express With VWD2008 And SSMS

Apr 22, 2008

Hello,

On a windows 2003 server R2 x64, i had the Framework.net 3.5, Sql Server 2005 express (instance s423553 on NT SERVICENetwork) and Visual Web Developper 2008.

I installed Sql Server Express 2008 Express (install .SQLexpress with the local account sqlserv10). The first time (with the account NTSERVICENetwork), it failed. I uninstalled it and Sql Server Management Studio 2005. The second time, the install end properly. But, can't find SSMS. On a MsSql2008 microsoft page, i've found a link for SSMS 2005. So i installed it.

But, on this server, Sql Server Management Studio Express 2005 does not work with Sql Server 2008. I tried to use the 2008 Instance with Visual Web Developper 2008 but it didn't work (only compatible with sql server 2000, 2005....).

Could you help me please ?

Thank you.

SQL Server 2012 :: Query Parses In SSMS But Not In SSIS?

Oct 20, 2015

The environment is Server 2008 32-bit, SQL 2012 SP2 Standard 32-bit (11.00.5058), and Visual Studio 10 SP1 (10.0.40219.1).

I have a query that begins with MERGE <tablename> USING (SELECT blah, blah, blah While in SSMS, I can parse the query with no issues. I can execute the query and see the results I expect. But when I put the same query into an Execute SQL Task in SSIS, it won't parse. It gives me one of those very informative messages that I so love - Query failed to parse. Incorrect syntax near the keyword "MERGE".

I don't know if the 32-bit/64-bit thing has any bearing or not, but I have taken the exact same project folder, copied it to a 64-bit box, and it works fine in both SSMS and SSIS. That one is running Server 2012 R2, SQL 2012 SP2 Standard (11.00.5343), and Visual Studio 10 SP1 (10.0.40219.1).

Cannot Connect To Server Through Ssms - Cannot Generate Sspi Context

Aug 1, 2007

Hi,

I have gone through so many kb articles to understanding the problem, but no luck as yet.

Here is the situation:

I have two dev servers : Server A and Server B. Both are set up in an identical fashion. Windows 2003 sp2, Sql Server 2005 sp1 Developer Edition, both are on the same domain, Both have all the three protocols enabled: Shared Memory, Tcpip, and Named Pipes in that order. I can ping both servers, and telnet using the default port. Both have only default instances. Both use the same domain user account for sql service. Both have the error in the log saying that spn could not be registered so authentication may fall back to NTLM.

Here is the issue: When I try to register Server A specifying tcp-ip connection, I am successful and I can see that the authentication is NTLM - is as expected. since the spn registration did not happen and since the sqlservice account is not a domain admin, the authentication used NTLM over tcp-ip. However, I try to register Server B specifying tcpip, I get a cannot generate sspi context error. Why did the authentication not fall back to NTLM as in Server A? From what I read in the KB articles, I asked our network admin to check up the spn, but he assures me that spn were never manually registered.

Can somebody throw more light on this issue?

Thanks
KRSE

Unattended Install Of SSMS/BIDS After SQL Server Express

Dec 19, 2006

Hi,

I'm currently trying to develop an unattended installation of the Client Tools to be distributed to developers workstations.

All is well on 'clean' machines, but the problems arise when an instance of SQL Server Express is already present. The install fails, and the reason isn't clear from the log files.

I know Express installs a couple of the Client Components (like Config Manager), and I believe this is what it blocking me.

Has anyone tried this scenario?

Would I be best to REMOVE the Client_Components first, and then re-install them with SSMS etc.? Or is there a better method?

I have to leave the Express Database instance untouched as I'm not responsible for its installation or maintenance.

Thanks,

Gordon.

Offcourse parameters have to be set correctly. (That is no problem).
Splitting of the multivalued parameter is not a problem either.

SQL Security :: Windows Server Firewall Not Blocking SSMS Access From All IPs

Nov 6, 2015

We have a hosted server with a website and sql server 2008 on.

The windows firewall is turned on for all networks / profiles and says its blocking incoming traffic.

I see a lot of login attempts in the windows logs where hackers are trying to connect to it. I can also access it via SSMS from multiple external ips.

Everywhere I've googled says that incoming traffic should be blocked by default by the firewall.

There are no obvious rules that allow SSMS access.

If I do a blocking rule on inbound rules for a single ip that does work, blocking it from that ip, but any other ip's can still connect.

In the firewall log file I can see the allowed connections on port 1433 etc. other than the dropped one from the test blocking rule.

Data Access :: Connecting To Server Using SSMS - Login Failed For User

Mar 21, 2014

I have a windows 2008 with SQL Server 2008 R2 VM on Azure. I am trying to connect to the SQL server for the first time using SSMS, but have not been able it. I have a VPN tunnel, so I am connecting using Windows authentication. The error I get back from SSMS is:

SQL Server Admin 2014 :: SSMS - Disable Check For Memory Optimized Tables?

Oct 2, 2014

I have the following setup:

- An MSSQL 2014 Standard server that houses multiple small databases (in excess of a hundred).
- These databases are frequently dropped and restored by an application that uses this SQL Server.
- There is a business need for this setup at this time, so I can't get away from it. Therefore answers like "don't have so many small databases that are frequently dropped and restored" would be somewhat unuseful

This is the problem I have:

- When I connect SSMS 2014 to the server and expand the "Databases" node, it takes forever to display. In comparison, SSMS 2008 connected to SQL 2008R2 server with the same number of databases displays the Databases tree very quickly.

I ran a trace to see what exactly SSMS 2014 is doing. When the "Databases" node is expanded, it runs a query that checks each database for Memory-Optimized Tables (new and wonderful feature of SQL 2014 for sure, but I'm not using it, at least yet). Naturally, when you have to loop through over a hundred DBs, it takes time. Worse yet, if one of these DBs is in process of being restored, the query sits and waits to time out before proceeding to the next DB. Sometimes this causes outright timeouts. Here is the query:

use [MyDatabase]
SELECT
ISNULL((select top 1 1 from sys.filegroups FG where FG.[type] = 'FX'), 0) AS [HasMemoryOptimizedObjects]

To be sure, this is NOT a SQL Server performance issue. This server processes a rather heavy workload and has been doing so for over a month, and the workload completes within expected time limits or better. Even so I've done some basic performance measuring, and the server itself is quite all right.

Moreover, if I connect SSMS 2008 to it, I get an error message (Index out of bounds or somesuch), but SSMS 2008 does connect, and displays the Databases tree much faster than SSMS 2014.

I'd like to turn off the option to check for Memory Optimized Objects altogether, as I'm not using the feature.
