all I have is 'desktop'. Everything else is under that. But all the pics I've seen of windows 10 show 'this PC' as the top level link. I would much prefer that. "desktop' ends up being twice in the tree, and removable media twice as well. Well, actually desktop is right inside my user folder too!

Also at the bottom, after Network is Homegroup. I do not use Homegroup. Can I delete it from this list? I have other computers that do not list Homegroup so why does this one list it?
View 5 Replieswindows 7, I was able to to go into file explorer and would be able to see the document in the preview pane using PDF viewer Plus. Now I am unable to see anything. I cant seem to see any way to configure the file explorer to see any pdf files. Word files ok just seems to be the pdf files.
View 9 RepliesI recently uninstalled Adobe Creative Cloud. Even after uninstalling, a folder named "Creative Cloud Files" remains in the File Explorer. I can't find a way to delete this. How can I remove this folder?

In file exlorer:
when I have the preview pane is open,
I select a file,
I start typing the name of a document to find it, but the file explorer doesn't take me to the file. (it doesn't find it/highlight it)
When I turn off the preview pane, the file explorer finds the files without any issues.
In Windows 7, it did this without a problem, in the same folder.
Admittedly, I do have over 40,000 files, but since it worked fine with Windows 7, I don't think this is a problem with the number of files.
As shown below there are 2 drives missing from the Navigation Pane (vertical bar on the left of the File Explorer). How do I show them up there?

View 4 RepliesI just did read (and do) instructions about removing OneDrive from the left explorer-pane. (and the quick-access pane) after reading a few hour, with instructions it was done in 2/3 mins
but now the question.. since this is about DropBox and not about OneDrive, I want to remove the DropBox item from the left-explorer-pane, but i do not want to remove (uninstall) dropbox...
I've seen adding shortcuts for these folders to Quick Access, but not rooted in the Navigation Pane. This avoids having to deal with Ownership/Permissions issues of the CLSIDs under HKLM. So here are the files:

For Pinned items in Quick Access in Win10 Navigation pane, a gray Pin icon is displayed beside each item.
Can it be removed or made transparent with Reshacker?
Note: I wanted to keep the Quick access feature so that I can still drag and drop in Nav pane.
i have an annoying problem. when i plug a usb drive, the file explorer shows the same drive with the same drive letter twice. it's no big deal but annoying like i said..
View 4 RepliesWin 7 did it, and Win 10 did. I have my downloads go to E:Downloads, like to keep them separate. Win 10 use to show first the files by date, and then any folders under them. Now it is showing all folders first and then the downloaded files. I have tried everything in the view/group by, and sort by to try and get it back to where it was but no luck.
View 3 RepliesThe volume (V:) is formatted as Fat32. Maximum Fat32 volume size is 2 TB. To regain all of the volume space, format as NTFS, or split into 2TB and 1TB Fat32 volumes.

I read it does dual-monitors but I can't figure out how to switch when I can't see anything. I have an Alienware computer. Should I call Dell or talk to Microsoft support? The picture isn't clear but that's my desktop.
View 6 RepliesI had an issue with Firefox where if I clicked the Taskbar icon, the program would not show on the desktop. HOWEVER, if you hover over the icon, it showed what it would look like if it were expanded. I restarted it in safe mode and got it to work again.
Just now WORD is doing the same thing. I had 3 WORD windows open and then they stopped showing at some point. However, they appear if I hover over the icon (set to "always combine, hide labels" in taskbar). I can see that they are in the same state that I left them, but they won't show on the desktop if I click them.
So right now, WORD won't open at all, even though the icon thinks it is open. This is really a problem since I need to finish some work with WORD ASAP.
I can not get my pc to follow my Power and Sleep settings. After 5 minutes of inactivity, the screen is blank and I have to wake it and login.

View 6 RepliesUnder the Network tab of File Explorer, I can see three entries, one of which is my router (with attached Hard Drive) and two computers, each running Windows 10. When I expand the router entry, I can see my hard drive files. I can also see my Users icons when I expand one of the computer's tabs. However, when I click on the other computer's name to search for users, all I see is a message that "This folder is empty". In fact, the folder is not empty, as there are two users on the computer. How I can get this computer to show users, etc.?
View 6 RepliesI have about 100 files that start with the { character and end with the } character. Inside these two characters are a series of numbers and letters. The file sizes vary from 2-3K. Some of the earliest files are from 2012 and were from prior Windows operating systems.
This is typical of the file name.

I would like to delete these files to clean up my root folder. Why these files were created? Can they safety be deleted?
I'm having a bit of trouble with my Lenovo x220 laptop.
At first I had installed the RTM 10240 version and then updated it to Build 10586. Once I updated I noticed the computer started to behave erratic random freezes at boot up, forcing me to hold the power key down to turn off and reset, would do this a couple of times until it would boot.
Finally I couldn't figure out the problem so on DEC 9, I said "f-it" and formatted the machine with clean build of 10586 using the Microsoft official tool and media creation. Everything seemed to be working fine, drivers and files downloaded and installed automatically. Installed all my programs and customized it the way I like it. Everything seemed to be running fine, last time I used the machine was DEC 13th.
No new programs or software has been installed since that time. At the time I last used it I was just surfing the web and using firefox, and watching youtube. No games, no installs, no new programs, nothing. I double checked program manager, and last time any programs were installed was on DEC 9, but like I said it was working fine since. Today when I booted, Windows installed updates and now on every reset I am getting this particular error on boot,
An attempt to add the root certificate to all known browsers on your computer failed.
I did already run an /sfc scannow as admin command prompt and everything came back A-OK ....
This is the 2nd time W10 has gone flaky on me on this machine. I'm trying to give this OS a "chance" and work my way through it, but common this is the 2nd error already since using W10 on this laptop that it's going screwy. I am keeping all programs to a minimum on here in case I have any compatibility issues.
Get error message when I try to save a document or picture on c: 'A required privilege is not held by client.' Is there a way to fix this?
View 9 RepliesI've got a Lenovo Desktop that was upgraded from 8.1 to 10 just after the release. I have a Toshiba Laptop which I upgraded from 7 to 10 about a month ago. Occasionally, the desktop screen for the desktop would be the default desktop image for the Toshiba laptop with "Toshiba" in the lower right corner.
Last night I performed a clean install of 10 on my Laptop. I went to bed and let the laptop work the updates as I was sleeping. When I woke up the Lenovo, again, the desktop showed the Toshiba default image rather than the one I had changed it to previously.
I had researched the issue but only after making this post is when I realized that all accounts under the same Microsoft ID will sync, including the desktop personalization. Not exactly a feature that I like. I'd like to turn that feature off.
I noticed that when opening Desktop in Windows Explorer, it doesn't show any of the icons of This PC, My Documents, Network and Recycle Bin. I have enabled these icons to be shown on the Desktop through the "Desktop Icons Settings" option. However, Explorer ignores them and only shows icons that are manually put on the Desktop.
