Render RS Report To Excel And Changes Sheet Names
Jun 1, 2006I am wondering if anyone knows how to change the sheet names in Excel when exporting a report from Reporting Services 2005. In other words, I have a report with approximately 5 page breaks built in. When I render the report to Excel, it creates the 5 sheets as I expect, but it names them "Sheet1", "Sheet2", "Sheet3" etc... Is there a way to specify the name of the sheets? I am currently using a different table in my report for each sheet, but I am open to structuring this differently if needed.

Hi all,
Currently, I am using the SSRS 2005 and try to toggle the report columns similar to Excel's column grouping function. Users can expand "+" / collapse "-" the columns in the render excel report. It works fine when I excute the tabular report in the web yet the toggle function is missing when I render the report to an Excel report. I am not sure the toggle function will only work for the row items or both as the excel report can keep the toggle function for the row items. Please help.

I am trying to export a report into a format whiich I will then allow the user to make some final editions to prior to printing. Apparently LocalReport>Render does not support word format, however is supports others, what is the best format for me to export a report out into in order to then allow the user to edit it prior to printing, Ideally I would have just liked to lauch ms word and allow the user to edit the report if disired prior ro printing, but if I first export to .mhtml it seems to mess the column widths of the report up when opened in word..

Aug 17, 2015I have a foreach loop that is processing all .xls files then moving them to a processed directory.Problem is that when I try to open the original file which is in .xls 97-2003 format, it's giving me a file error that SSIS could not read. Â Found out the problem was called Extension Hardening. Â I fixed it in the registry according to a website I found and I thought about writing a Batch file or Script to handle it, however SSIS still can't read unless I open and "save-as" to another format. Â It even works if I still save it in 97-2003 format just has to be a different file.How can I open and resave the files (all excel files in directory through a loop) and rename them the same?
For example:
Original file named "ABCDEFG_08_15_2015.xls"
Can I loop through all files in the directory and name each one differently say "REVISED_ABCDEFG_08_15_2015.xls" so I can read them through SSIS?I think I need a @filename variable or something for that..

Data Not Shown, When Report Exported To Excel-Sheet

I'm quite new in Reporting Services and have the following problem:
I created a report which is getting its data from 5 different databases. For every database I made a subreport to get the data. In the preview and on the Reporting Server all the data is displayed find. Now I want to export the report to an Excel sheet which does work. But where the data from the subreports is to be shown it just says that subreports in table-cells has been ignored.
Another problem is that the way the report looks in the preview is fine - on the reporting server the columns are far to wide. I allready marked that the width should be fixed.
Some more information: in the main report some cells are merged. In these merged cells is the data from the subreport to be shown. The subreport displays the data in a table which has exact the same amount of colums (and the same size) the cells in the main report had before merging.

Feb 22, 2006I am trying to get the contents of the Excel Files dynamically and dumping into the SQL Database using SSIS. Through WMI Event Watcher, I could find when one or more Excel files dumped in a particular folder and using ForEach Loop Container I was able to take all the filenames and pass it through Variables. But at the same time in the Data Flow, I have to pass each Sheet of an Excel File to the Excel Source control and export the data to my SQL Database using OLEDB Destination.
For that I need to get the names of each sheets in an Excel File and pass it to the Excel Source Control through variables. But when I give Data Access Mode as "Table name or view name variable" and provide the variable name in that, then it is giving an error message as "A destination table name has not been provided".
And at the same time, Since I was not able to provide an static Filename (as I am passing through Variables), when I tried to map the columns in the OleDB Destination, it is not allowing me to map the columns.
So all these things I should do at Run-time using Variables in SSIS. I don't want to hard-code any filenames or Sheet names. If any one of you have a solution, please share with me.

Sep 14, 2015I have ssis package where I have excel connection manager with expression pointing to a variable which has path for location and name of excel spreadsheet to be create each with date on the name.ExcelFilePath points to variable for shared location where excel file will be saved.I have File system task for copying template excel file to destination location with date in file name.I drag and drop excel destination.  Pointed to excel connection manager. Under data access mode, I have select table and view.  When I try to select name of excel sheet,  it says, no tables or views could be loaded. I should be able to see sheetname there so that I can map column. I only have option to create new spreadsheet. I want to use template to load data in excel file. I dont want to create new sheet. It was working before. But I opened the ssis package and its broken. I am facing an issue, while exporting report to excel.
I have a report where some legends are being displayed on coversheet using matrix. The contents are fetched from backend.Some of legends have got too much of text while others don't have much.In matrix properties, I checked can increase/decrease to accommodate changes. When report runs in report viewer it shows correctly i.e. it adjusts its width according to contents but when same report is exported to Excel it doesn't happen so. The size of cell is not increasing dynamically, depending upon the data. User needs to expand the cell in order to view the data.
So, is there any option by which, we can implement data wrap functionality for matrix, when report is downloaded in excel format.
Your suggestion will be of great help.

Problem Regarding The Size Of Exported Report From Reporting Services To Excel Format

For developing a report I'm using SQL Server 2000 with SP4 & MS Visual Studio .Net 2003. After expoting a report in excel format file, the size of the excel file is so much big that while openning the report file it seemed to be hanged the PC.
Is there any way to reduce the size of the excel in reporting services?

Nov 21, 2006We are using SQL Server 2005 Reporting Services and looking to render our reports to Microsoft Word format. We€™ve searched around and haven€™t really found any useful information on how to do this.
Is Microsoft planning on releasing a Word rendering extension? If so, when?
Has anyone written a custom rendering extension for Word? Or, does anyone know how to write a custom rendering extension for Word?
We need either a Microsoft solution that€™s already built-in to Reporting Services or a solid, free solution. We are not in the market of buying a third-party product like OfficeWriter.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Excel Render Bug?
Apr 30, 2008I'm using visual studio 2005 with .NET 2.0 SP1.
Under a report server project, I created a table and used it to display a dataset drawn from a database (SQL Server 2005). And I set the "NoRows" property of this table to something like: "= "Customer: " & Parameters!CustomerID.Value & " does not exist in database.". I deployed the report on a report server, run it and exported to Excel. If there were no data returned, the Excel will display the non-exist message as designed. But if I export the same report again without re-run the report, the message will disappear. Looks like a bug?

I am using 'SQL Server 2005 Reporting Service' in my project. I am using sub-reports in many cases. Whenever I export such reports containing sub-reports to 'Excel' format which is the major client requirement in our project, the exported excel file shows 'Subreports within table/matrix cells are ignored.'
Can anybody tell me the solution for this? If not possible in reporting service then is there any other way to get data in excel format?

Jul 26, 2007I've got a SQL Reporting Server 2000 SP2 report that takes 3 parameters. FromDT, ToDT, and LocationCD. The first two parameters are free form text fields that expect a date. The last one is a drop down box. For some reason, when I'm viewing the report through the standard reports folder on the report server I have to click the "View Report" button two times to get the report to render. Clicking it just once, doesn't seem to do anything. The report is a line graph.
There are default values in the FromDT and ToDT parameter fields.
Anyone have any ideas what would be causing the need for the second click?

This seems like a simple Microsoft Based Reporting System 101 feature...But I can not find out how to do it (among other things that seem like it should work with Microsoft rendering to Microsoft).
How do I make the SSRS 2005 Header for the Report print on each of the pages in excel once it is rendered from SSRS?
All I want is an answer by MSFT that says "YES" it can be done and how or "No" it is not currently available.

Dropping Excel Sheet
May 14, 2002I guess nobodys heard of this? I'm using DTS to transform data to Excel spreadsheet. I have a DROP TABLE `data$` then a CREATE TABLE `data$` the old data is cleared but the new data is appended to the blank rows of the old data. So if I had 5 rows before now I have 10. And the new data has 5 blank rows before it.
I've tried deleting the excel file & replacing it with a new one.
I've used the wizard thinking it was me but no good, it still happens.

Please note that I do know how to create SSIS package to read an excel file with only one sheet.

Table Join Between Excel Sheet And MS-SQL
Oct 13, 2006My company has recently transitioned to a centralized Oracle database model.
For the sake of security, the "powers that be" have also denied any query ability to any central tables. They refuse to create views or any other open tables for people to query.
Instead, they provide a "tool" which people can use to download data - to Excel Spreadsheets.
In the past, before this "improvement" lots of users in the local plants were able to query the old system to bring data into spreadsheets for reports, analysis, etc.
Now the place is jammed to the hilt with linked spreadsheets - people do their "table joins" with linked cells and Excel VLookups (yuk). This is because the "powers that be" still demand that these reports, analysis, etc. be done.
I am trying to use SQL-DMO to create a table join between one of these Excel Data pulls and a MS SQL Server table in Excel so that I can join without VLookup. IS SQL-DMO the right way to go?
Has anyone done this? I think I am close, but I don't know how to use the SQL-DMO attached Excel table object I've created in a join. I can't see the object in MS Query. I am not adverse to doing the whole thing in VBA...
Here is another question. Most of these Data pulls using the "tool" (ball and chain, boat anchor) are done once a day or once a week. Would a better strategy be to create MS SQL server Tables that are dropped and re-written when the data is pulled into Excel? This would mean that the report worksheet does not have to import the Excel Data pull sheet to MS SQL when it updates its query.

I tried setting the bookmark, label and tooltip but no luck.
If I only export 1 report, the name of the sheet is the name if the report.

I'm just starting with SSIS and want to create a reusable package which imports from an excel file which can be specified at runtime. I can expose the filename of the excel file as part of the connectionString property but the sheet is the openrowset property which is a custom property and therefore isn't exposed as part of the external configuration. Does this make sense? Is there an easy way to specify the sheet to import at run time?
