Installation :: No Applications Running After Upgrade From Windows 7
Aug 5, 2015I just upgraded my Windows 7 installation to Windows 10 using the Windows free upgrade. The upgrade completed successfully and I am able to boot into Windows 10.
I am not able to open any applications pinned to the taskbar. Even the windows menu is not launching! Hence I am stuck with only limited set of applications which have shortcuts on the desktop.

Feb 1, 2016Right now some of the 'default' application's that come loaded with windows 10 are working..but for some reason some of them are not. The one I'm most concerned about is Mail & Calendar, right now when I go into the windows store..it shows I have update's available, it adds them to the download queue properly..but upon trying to download / install them I get a message that says ' Try that again-see details, Something went wrong, The error code is 0x80070003 in case you need it.
I've tried several thing's to try and correct this..so far no luck, I know there must be a way to correct this. I was previously running Windows 10 Insider Preview Build 14251 , but I had some issue's with it..so I had to go back to Windows 10 Insider Preview Build 11102.Now when I try and update some of my application's, this is what I'm seeing.
Applications Crashing Post Upgrade - No Data Saved
Aug 19, 2015After upgrade from W81 to W10, I have occasional Notepad, Thunderbird email, and PhotoPhilia crashes, no data saved. Occasionally the task does not crash but does disappear from the task bar (visible from Task Manager) though I can't get back into it.
I have not upgraded any of these products. I'd have assumed that Notepad, at least, would be current. I don't know how to find which build I am on.

Now, I have to wipe my hard drive, so I'll obviously be reinstalling Windows 8 once I have done so. Will it again give me the option to upgrade to Windows 10, or will I be forced to stick with the dreaded Windows 8?

But I can find no way to get into the Setup screen. I've gone to Settings, Update & Security, Advanced Startup and Restart Now. But I have no option to Use a Device. If I choose Troubleshoot then Advanced Options, the subsequent screen has no option for UEFI Firmware Settings.
I've disabled Fast Boot through Power Options in the Control Panel, then tried F2 and the Delete key when starting. Nothing...
The fact that I can't do something that was so easy in Windows 7 is enough reason in itself to remove 10. Throw in the fact that the scanner part of my printer no longer works is just icing on the cake. I have the Windows 7 disk. I just can't figure out how to use it.
Installation :: What To Do About Existing Applications
Feb 10, 2016I'm planning on moving from Win 7 to Win 10 via a new install (although it seems I should upgrade first - I'll read about that). My questions have to do with my Win 7 applications...
#1) Is there a list someplace of applications that need to be "de-registered" so they can be registered on the new Win 10 clean install? For example, I'm pretty sure the Adobe suite has to be deregistered - maybe MS Office too?
#2) Is there a way to move an application? By that I mean I either don't have the original install files anymore or in some cases I've found some useful software from [URL] .... where you download the install file but it has to be installed and registered that day. If you wait a day, you can't register it. Any way to "move" these programs? I realize generally you can't just move applications and then the added complication of going from Win 7 to Win 10.

However, C: (disk1 in the screenshot below) has several partitions and unlabelled volumes that I'm guessing Windows created. Do I remove all of them during the install process?

Sep 10, 2015Long story short, I have had Windows 10 on my laptop ever since the second I could upgrade it. Last week my laptop got infected with a virus and would not boot up. I tried everything and the only solution that would work was to reset it to factory condition which brought my laptop back to windows 8.1. I no longer see any notifications popping up telling me I can upgrade to Windows 10. Is there another way I can upgrade or am I stuck with Windows 8.1 for good?

Feb 10, 2016My laptop became a bit slow and explorer crashes often. So, to clean install, I am guessing "Reset this PC" should work.
There are 2 options "Keep my files" and "remove everything". I have partitioned the hard drive space it to 4 local disks and installed windows 10 on C drive. I want only C drive to be cleaned and rest of the disks data to be intact. Which option to choose?
Additional Info: My laptop came with Windows 8 and I upgraded to W10. So I am hoping this reset option wouldn't mess with activation.

Aug 30, 2015I really tried to like Win 10, but the mail not syncing, the virtual keyboard resetting all the time, not having Cortana or offline map in my region, oh and of course all the various BSODs made me give up after a month. It has promise, it may become a great OS, but right NOW, I simply can not work with it.
So anyway, I am on a Asus Vivo Note 8 tablet, I deleted windows.old after the install because of the lack of space.
I have a factory-made Recovery drive in the shape of a Micro SD card, which I plugged in, hit Reset system, just to end up with a clean install of Windows...10...
I read that you can download Win 8 to an USB and install it from there, but I DO HAVE a Recovery Drive so I'd like to use that, it has custom made drivers and MS Office and whatnot on it too. The problem is that I can not start the process. It will not auto-start if I plug the SD card in, it won't start by double clicking on it, and if I open it in explorer, there's only a folder called Sources with absolutely nothing on it.
Can I just randomly format the SSD and stick the SD card in and start the install or something?
Installation :: Image Corruption - Even After Reinstall From ISO
Apr 14, 2016I have upgraded directly from a Windows Ten Pro ISO downloaded directly from Microsoft, but both sfc /scannow and Dism "restore heallth" run from an elevated prompt report that they cannot repair the image errors. Windows support simply says to "reset" from Update and Security from the Settings menu, but this machine was running CLEAN Windows 8.1 (sfc /scannow or DISM commands reported no errors) and resetting as they suggest will (at a minimum) mean that all of my installed software will be entirely lost.
I am desperate for a person proficient in restoring the integrity of a Windows Ten Pro image (have tried BOTH reinstalling directly from the downloaded ISO (multiple times and from re-downloaded ISO's and doing in-place upgrades). Both methods report the same errors upon reinstallation or in-place upgrade methods.
The running image is corrupt, corrupt, corrupt. What are the command(s) to restore it to health, as was the case with the previous clean 8.1 that was running before the upgrade???
Both Sfc /scannow and DISM restorehealth report that the image is repairable, but it is beyond my understanding how to do do.

Jan 30, 2016I have a Toshiba Satellite E45DW-C4210 (came preinstalled with Windows 10 so no disc obviously) & it came with some bloatware from Toshiba.
How can I do a "fresh" wipe or whatever you want to call it so only Windows 10 is on the laptop, I don't want any Toshiba software/bloatware on the laptop. Basically just barebones, as if I built my this laptop myself and put a copy of Windows 10 on it. That is what I'm looking to do. I just feel starting over again with nothing but Windows will improve the laptop.
I know you can do a system reset where it wipes all your data & re-installs Windows 10 but then the Toshiba's software is just installed all over again. I don't know if this is possible but if it is how can I achieve this?

Aug 11, 2015I got this issue yesterday that some applications in my win 10 pc v10240 wont run until I run them as administrator. I thought I did something wrong because I was messing up with registry entries so I tried googling it but didn't find anything. Then today I decided to reinstall windows and after the clean install now the issue is happening again. Sep 10, 2015So I was coming from Windows 7, got my upgrade by using the usb method. Downloaded the tool from microsoft and installed W10 over W7. Everything was great, until I noticed every time I loaded Steam, it would show the process how ever many times in my processes, but never actually open. No matter how many times I would reinstall the Steam App or clean my reg and system, reboot, nothing. A friend suggested I do a clean wipe and install so I did.
Formatted my primary SSD drive and left my other 2 hard drives alone. Rebooted W10 and same problem after loading Steam. I tried all the above again, multiple installs of Steam, cleaning the system, reboots, whatever I could think of and can not get it to run. The Steam app will install then start to update and never update and stays running in my processes.
I was wondering if the problem is I am running 3 hard drives, my primary SSD with W10 only, and a bunch of steam apps and files games etc all still on my other 2 Hard Drives. Do I need to wipe my other 2 drives completely, fresh wipe my SSD and install w10 again? Not sure what the problem is. All my other friends with W10 have their steam working. I need to have this app run, as it is the portal into all my games I have purchased to play online. I have reverted to W7 until I can figure out what to do.
Oh and when I go back to W7, the Steam app loads right away and works. So this is a W10 issue.

Installation :: Cannot Log In After Upgrade
Aug 1, 2015Just upgraded my work pc to windows 10. Haven't gotten to the desktop yet. I cannot no longer log in. It does not recognize my password. This has never happened before. Also, my login prompt under 8.1 was just the password. Now it also presents me with a selection for the user name and another one for the password. Didn't expect that problem. Moreover it does not react to when I request a reboot. (By the way, the pc is independent. It does NOT belong to a domain.)
