I accidentally happened to make all my .bin files open with notepad. Ive tried to restore the default association of the .bin files through the default choice in control panel and also through regedit but without any success. how to restore the default state for .bin files.
So, beginning the other day my computer has been having this problem where everything becomes unresponsive except for whatever I currently have open.
To explain: When I start up my computer, if I first open up an internet browser, I can no longer click on anything on the desktop or taskbar or anything. If I have multiple programs open, such as my browser, Skype, and Steam, only one of them will ever work. Clicking on any of the others does nothing, and Alt-Tabbing will take me to the different programs, but only one is ever responsive at a time.
A temporary fix (i.e. a 15 second fix) is to CTRL-ALT-Delete into Task Manager, which for some reason allows all the programs to once again work. However, whichever one I go into for more than 10 seconds, that one becomes the only one to work, and the problem persists.
I've done two system restores, but they solved nothing. I even updated to Windows 10 to try and fix it, but no luck. My hope is to not have to do a full factory reset.
Every time I open a java program (netbeans, mc) it crashes after about 3sec. The aplications works when I run java 32-bit but I can't run anything with more then 1,5Gb of ram and if I change to 64 (deleting 32-bit and installing 64-bit)the aplications just crashes after 3sec. I've tried running both java 7 and 8 but it still crashes. I believe it's a problem with windows 10 but I'm not sure...
Error: Java(TM) Platform SE binary has stopped working
A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available.
After upgrading to Windows 10, Outlook 2010 keeps asking how to open web links when I clicked. I keep telling him to use IE11. The registry update Looks like Microsoft removed if IE11. For if I click Edge or chrome then he start each link in Edge or chrome.
I do not want to used Edge for now until it not possible creates a simple link using drag / drop. And especially until it do not sync favorites with other machines in my park (windows 7 et windows 8.1).
This is a bug or it is by Microsoft? If this is the case, I immediately make a retro pedal to windows 7.
I'm trying to add my own program (AkelPad) to the list of Default programs.I created and applied the reg-file, but the program still is not in the list.
Code: Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREAkelPadCapabilities]"ApplicationDescription"="AkelPad - Text Editor" "ApplicationIcon"="C:Program FilesAkelPadAkelPad.exe,0""ApplicationName"="AkelPad" [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREAkelPadCapabilitiesFileAssociations]".txt"="AkelPadText.txt"".ini"
[code]...
How to add my own program that doesn't appear in Default programs list?
I have Windows 10 64-bit, I did a clean install on a new build (SSD). I would use the Windows "move" application feature and the default download location option but Microsoft greyed out the option on the final release of Windows and nobody knows when the feature will be back.
So should I change this stuff in regedit, using this method* or what should I do?
I'm trying to clean up my desktop, but every time I turn my laptop off, and then come back to it, all the icons have reset to the way they were before I started moving stuff around. Even the change from small to medium icons resets.
I can't use EDGE as my default browser as I have a few media servers and as has been pointed out that as EDGE is a universal app addresses like 127.0.0.1:8000 (i.e localhost type stuff) are no longer addressable. I need these types of addresses to use the web interface control settings on various of my media servers so I want to reset IE as the default app.
The other day, I was trying to fix Windows Default Apps not working by adding "ALL APPLICATION PACKAGES" to the following directories as indicated here: [URL]
However, it seems to have messed up the permissions as what I did was take ownership and then added both myself and "ALL APPLICATION PACKAGES".
My question is, how do I reset the permissions of the following folders and their sub folders and sub files to the defaults:
C:Program Files C:Windows C:Users
Does this command below do it? icacls * /T /Q /C /RESET
My other question is will it fix the folders to the default inheritance if I enabled inheritance to child folders/files for a folder that was by default disabled or if I disabled inheritance to the child folders/files for a folder that is by default enabled?
Other than the above, Am I correct that I will have to manually change the permission for each users folder under C:Users so they own and have full control of that folder.
Is there anyway to reset the permissions back to Account Unknown() for the WindowsApps folder? I wanted to have a look in it, I changed the ownership to myself and now I just want to reset it back to the default. The default was Account Unknown(sequence of some kind), but you can't just set it back.
After resetting UEFI to default values, I can't start WIndows because boot goes to UEFI.
I wanted to make a clean install of W10 and for that I had to make some changes in UEFI because it wouldn't allow me otherwise. But after the installation I see that I have some problems with the sleep and fast boot, not working well. So I went to UEFI and reset it to default, saved and exit. On boot, it goes to UEFI once and again. Windows doesn't load.
So I have to do the same changes that I had to do for installing W10. Disable fast boot, etc. And then yes, I get to Windows, but keep having the same sleep and boot problems. Both work really bad in different ways.
I also did other changes, by the way. I couldn't install W10 because it said that my disk was GPT partition style, so I had to follow some instructions to change that, which wiped my disk and partitions completely and maybe I missed some step...
Whenever I plug a photo card in to my PC, the new Photo Viewer program is launched (which doesn't find the card but that doesn't matter as I don't want to use that program anyway). How can I change the default import program to one of my choice (Lightroom).
I can of course shut it down, load Lightroom and then select the card but I always have to go through the process of first shutting down the program that loads automatically. If anything is going to load automatically I would rather pick my own!
I'm using a Sony a3000 camera, although I don't think that's the problem. When I download photos on my old computer, which is still running Windows7, my photos go straight to my default program, PaintshopPro. On my laptop, which has Windows 10, I have set PaintshopPro as the default, but when I connect the camera, I get a pop up to choose the device, either F:/ or PMHOME.
When I choose F:/, I get a pop-up to start importing and it gives me the option where I want to import, but the photos end up in the Photos App in the Collections folder. I don't want to use the Photos app. I want them to go straight into PSP. How do I do that?
when I set a default program in the Settings app and then open a file, Windows still asks which program I want to use. Admittedly, it does this only once per file type, but this is extremely annoying in a work environment where there are numerous computers.
For example, I went into the Settings app and set the .AU3 file extension to be opened in a specific program. Then, I double-clicked an .AU3 file, and I got this window:
It has the correct default in the above image, but it asks if I want to "keep using this app." Why? Can I make this stop?
So two things; when I restart my computer my saved and in-use cursor always resets back to the default cursor pack that comes with the system. I had this issue in Windows 8.1 too, but now it's getting on my nerves because I've got to go to the cursor customization panel every time I turn my computer back on for 2 reasons.
The second reason is not one I had in any previous versions. On my laptop touch pad, I always use the invisible scroll bar option on the edge, which you can turn on through the Synaptics settings, which is now found in the same panel I use to change my cursor back.
Is there any way to make these two settings default so I don't have to redo them every single time I turn my computer on?
For the cursors, I download/make individual cursors and customized them, saving the general group in a file I call 'custom cursors', I don't download entire packs. I never have to reload the cursor set I'm trying to use, I just have to pull up the panel and click 'ok' to get back out of it, and this updates me to the custom cursors that were already on there, like the system knew I wanted them, but I just sort of had to remind it to activate them. For the Synaptics issue, I never had the problem before the Windows 10 update and I use the scrolling function a LOT.
Unable to resize a batch of photos using the built-in Windows 10 resize feature with the Send To option:
1. Open a folder containing photos. 2. Select some photos. 3. Right-click selected photos and choose "Send to." 4. Click on "Mail Recipient" in the listed options in the pop-out menu. 5. Notice that the "Attach Files" dialogue box displays. 6. From the drop-down menu, I selected "Smaller: 640 x 480" 7. An estimate of the new total file size is given... press the Attach button. 8. Notice that the progress of the file re-size operation displays, "Preparing to send."
Receive error message, "There is no email program associated to perform the requested action..."
Not true, I went into the Control Panel and associated the Windows 10 Mail program as the default email program. Please see attached screen shots as verification/clarification. Is there something I am missing? I am using Windows 10 Pro.
So I just turned my computer on and noticed that my desktop had been reset to the default wallpaper and all of my folders had been deleted. I also realised that my documents and pictures had been deleted. I tried to run a game and my save files had been deleted.
I restarted my computer and everything was normal.
Is this an issue computer or just Windows 10 in general?
